Sexy Joker makes Batman No.1?

Batman has kicked the arse of his arachnid and Krypton-born counterparts this season by being voted Britain's Favourite Superhero and, frankly, I'm not surprised. 

He's been reinvented as many times as Madonna but, unlike his fellow spandex-clad superheroes, has no special powers. 


Despite that, die-hard sci-fi fans have granted him the top spot in one of SFX.co.uk's latest surveys.


So what makes the caped crusader so damn moreish?

Anyone who's ever read the original graphic novel, Arkham Asylum, will be well aware of Batman's blatant insanity and weakness to the point of nausea.


Yet he's got something that no other superhero has - an incredibly wild and sexy nemesis.

I realise that the saner you are, the more repulsed you will be by the mere suggestion, but those of you who truly share Not all about the mummy's darker side will understand.



I personally wouldn't kick the joker out of bed and it's certainly not based on Heath Ledger's near award winning performance or remembered part in 2005's Brokeback Mountain.


There's something exciting about spontaniety and madness and, let's face it, The Joker exercises both. 


It's the thought of going to extremes to feel the adrenalin rush that, as you get older, becomes increasingly hard to recreate well beyond your initial teenage kicks phase.


Just think Michael Hutchence and his auto-erotic entrance to heaven.


A leather-belted noose in search of pleasure is certainly not for the faint-hearted and could be seen as a little too extreme, but you can’t blame him for trying.


I'd always been a fan but my respect for him probably grew when I realised to what extent he’d go to in pursuit of the ultimate experience.


I just think that a little flirt with the darker side in fantasy can be healthy, especially when few things feel bad or rebellious enough in adulthood to make you feel alive. 


And that's why, for me, Batman is number one.
